Amanda Sobhy joins eating-disorders awareness athlete panel

Amanda Sobhy was scheduled to participate in an athlete panel during National Eating Disorders Awareness Week in the United States. The world No. 11 squash player was due to join skier Alice Merryweather and boxer Danny O’Connor on 24 February at 14:00 Eastern Time.
The panel was organised through the National Eating Disorders Association, which supports affected individuals and families through education, early intervention and research. Sobhy publicly discussed her own long-term experience with an eating disorder in 2021.
Ahead of the session, she shared reflections on the pressures of elite sport and the ongoing nature of recovery. Her planned appearance brought an athlete’s perspective to the awareness programme and its public discussion of support.
