Ebba Andersson won the first Olympic women’s fifty-kilometre classic mass start in Tesero, earning her first individual Olympic gold. The Swede finished in 2:16:28.2 after breaking away from Heidi Weng at the thirty-kilometre point.
Weng took silver, 2:15.3 behind, while Switzerland’s Nadja Kälin separated from the chasing group late in the race to win bronze. Norway’s Kristin Austgulen Fosnæs finished fourth and Jessie Diggins fifth in the American’s final Olympic appearance.
Andersson had fallen shortly before making her decisive move during a ski change, yet recovered and extended her advantage through the final twenty kilometres. The title concluded the women’s cross-country programme and completed a successful individual campaign after her earlier silver medals.
