Anisimova wins final nine games to defeat Blinkova at Indian Wells
The American recovered from a turbulent opening set in ninety-nine minutes.
Source publication date:
Amanda Anisimova defeated Anna Blinkova 5–7, 6–1, 6–0 to reach the Indian Wells third round. The ninety-nine-minute victory ended her three-match losing streak at the tournament and moved her to two victories from two professional meetings with Blinkova.
Seven service breaks shaped a fluctuating opening set before the Russian took it 7–5. Anisimova then found more effective serving and won the final nine games, controlling the second and third sets despite the players landing similar percentages of first serves.
The American won approximately sixty-nine percent of first-serve points and forty-two percent behind her second delivery, both better than her opponent. She advanced to face Emma Raducanu, who had defeated Anastasia Zakharova, while aiming to match her fourth-round result from her 2018 tournament debut.
