Humpy Koneru officially withdrew from the 2026 FIDE Women’s Candidates Tournament, and Anna Muzychuk was named as her replacement. The event was scheduled to take place in Cyprus between 28 March and 16 April.

FIDE said the vacancy was offered under article 2.2 of the tournament regulations. That provision directs the place to the next highest finisher in the 2024–25 Women’s Events Series who had not already secured qualification, bringing the Ukrainian grandmaster into the field.

The federation also cited article 4.5.3 on pairings. The replacement player takes the withdrawn competitor’s position rather than triggering a new draw, and the chief arbiter was due to adjust the existing pairings accordingly.
