Asal retains Optasia title after ninety-three-minute final

Mostafa Asal defended the Optasia Championships title by beating Diego Elias 3–2 in ninety-three minutes. The world number one won 11–8, 5–11, 11–5, 10–12, 11–5, collecting a fourth consecutive trophy and extending his unbeaten match sequence to twenty-three.
Elias won the second game to end Asal’s run of seventy straight games on the PSA tour. The Peruvian then saved three match balls in the fourth, taking five consecutive points to force a decider after his own comeback victory in the previous round.
Asal established a 6–0 lead in the final game and prevented another Elias recovery. Afterward he welcomed his opponent’s return to top-level competition and praised the entertainment of the contest. The title defence completed another tournament victory for the Egyptian at Wimbledon.
