Astana replaces Manama as host of the 2026 wrestling worlds
UWW’s May decision moved the tournament to Barys Arena amid travel uncertainty.
Source publication date:
United World Wrestling announced on 22 May that Astana would replace Manama as host of the 2026 World Championships. It confirmed a tournament window of 24 October to 1 November in Kazakhstan.
The Bureau cited the geopolitical situation and uncertainty affecting international travel. Following site visits, the Kazakhstan Wrestling Federation was selected and Barys Arena designated as the venue.
The decision followed a joint UWW-Bahrain statement postponing the original hosting arrangement. Astana had previously staged the championships in 2019. This archive report records the May host change and confirmed dates; it does not claim that the October tournament had already taken place.
