Athletics Ireland sets Olympic medal goal for Los Angeles
Its updated strategy strengthens coaching, athlete support and the performance pathway.
Source publication date:
Athletics Ireland launched its revised high-performance strategy for 2026–2028 with an Olympic medal at Los Angeles as a central objective. The plan builds on thirty-four medals at targeted competitions during the Paris cycle and seeks continued improvement at global and European championships.
The federation targets thirty-six medals at key events across the coming cycle. Priorities include professional coaching, stronger daily training environments, regional centres of excellence and a pathway helping emerging athletes reach senior international competition.
Around seventy athletes currently receive support through the carding system, while nearly two hundred represent Ireland internationally each year. The strategy also commits to generating at least twenty per cent of high-performance funding through federation revenue alongside public and partner investment.
