England Athletics announced the death of technical official Malcolm Rogers, whose career spanned more than fifty years. Rogers had recently been helping organisers prepare for the European Championships in Birmingham, continuing a long involvement in the delivery of major athletics meetings.

He served as athletics competition director at the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics and worked on every major British athletics event from 2002 in senior competition or administration roles. He received an MBE in the 2023 King’s Birthday Honours for his contribution to the sport.

Rogers also spent almost twenty years as national officials’ secretary and sat on the UK Athletics technical committee from its formation. The federation’s tribute highlighted his calm decision-making, reliability and support for integrating para-athletics into mainstream events alongside his extensive technical service.
