Athletics Ireland highlighted findings from Sport Ireland’s Gender Balance in Irish Sports Media report for 2025. The study analysed more than thirty thousand news stories across television, radio, print and online outlets and ranked athletics second among sports in women’s coverage.

Kate O’Connor was identified as the third most visible athlete in Irish sports news during the year. Sarah Healy also featured prominently, with major international championship performances contributing to attention for women’s athletics.

The broader research found that women’s sport accounted for eighteen per cent of all sports news coverage. Athletics Ireland linked its strong position to global competition results and growing interest, while recognising the work of those promoting athletes and maintaining the sport’s presence in national media.
