Ava Fields returned to archery in November 2024 after six years away, following a hip condition and surgeries that ended her swimming competition. A local Junior Olympic Archery Development programme helped her rebuild confidence after she had first tried the sport at ten.

She entered the South Carolina State Championships in January 2025, then chose to attempt the Gator Cup while still eligible for the under-18 division. Fields treated the national-level meeting as an opportunity to learn despite her limited recent competition experience.

Within her first year back, she competed in three USAT Qualifier Series events, qualified for the United States Archery Team and secured a scholarship opportunity at the University of Rio Grande. The profile also describes practical support from fellow archers when equipment failed during competition.
