Chirault’s double leads France’s Taranto archery success
French athletes won both individual titles and mixed-team gold at the Mediterranean Games.
Source publication date:
Thomas Chirault won two gold medals as France secured three archery titles at the Mediterranean Games in Taranto. He defeated Italy’s Francesco Gregori 7-1 in the recurve men’s final and teamed with Caroline Lopez for a 6-0 mixed-team victory over Mete Gazoz and Dunya Yenihayat.
Lisa Barbelin completed France’s individual double by beating Spain’s Elia Canales 7-3 in the women’s final. Paula Alvarez Gonzalez took women’s bronze with a 6-2 win over Türkiye’s Elif Gokkir, extending Spain’s presence on the podium.
The team events produced different champions. Spain defeated France in straight sets for men’s team gold, while Türkiye’s Gokkir, Gizem Ozkan and Yenihayat beat France 5-3 in the women’s final. The 28 August outcomes show that France’s individual and mixed successes did not amount to a clean sweep of the programme.
