Baff wins Australia’s first women’s snowboard cross gold
The Australian beat Adamczykova and Moioli after advancing from seventeenth seeding.
Source publication date:
Josie Baff became the first Australian Olympic women’s snowboard cross champion with victory in Livigno. Eva Adamczykova took silver for Czechia, and Italy’s Michela Moioli claimed bronze after passing Switzerland’s Noemie Wiedmer near the finish.
Baff began the elimination rounds seeded seventeenth and needed a photo finish to advance from her quarter-final. She then moved from third to first in her semi-final before passing Wiedmer and resisting Adamczykova’s challenge in the medal race.
Adamczykova completed a set of Olympic gold, silver and bronze medals, thirteen months after becoming a mother. Baff became the second Australian woman to win an Olympic snowboard title, following Torah Bright’s halfpipe victory at Vancouver 2010.
