Bakkevig leads Norwegian junior giant slalom one-two
Aubert Serracanta earned a rare Spanish medal after a close Narvik final run.
Source publication date:
Rasmus Bakkevig won the men’s junior giant slalom in Narvik in 2:08.91, beating teammate Jarand Husby Haugen by 0.16 seconds. The Norwegian upgraded his previous year’s silver medal as Aleix Aubert Serracanta took bronze, three-tenths behind, before an enthusiastic home crowd at the championship venue.
Haugen led Bakkevig by 0.23 seconds after the first run but lost time on the upper section of his second descent. Bakkevig produced a smoother performance, while Aubert Serracanta recovered from mistakes to become only the second Spanish man to win a junior world medal.
Giuliano Fux climbed from twenty-first to fourth with the fastest second run, missing bronze by five-hundredths. Bakkevig added the title to his earlier team combined bronze from the same championships.
