Bandon’s new track prepares for April opening
The Cork club combines a growing juvenile membership with plans for further facilities.
Source publication date:
Bandon Athletics Club outlined plans to officially open its new track on 11 April. The club-built facility has a Conica surface and was supported by the Sports Capital Programme, Cork County Council, sponsors and community contributions, with Athletics Ireland backing the project.
The club reported 724 registered members in 2025, including 605 juveniles, making it the largest in Cork and Munster. The new track is intended to serve schools, clubs and regional events, while a complementary indoor training facility remains dependent on funding.
Bandon’s coaches also completed an Erasmus shadowing exchange with Oslo’s IK Tjalve, following Sander Skotheim and coach Eric Røe. The club plans to incorporate those lessons into athlete development, alongside its road race scheduled for 30 April.
