Batovska-Fialkova retires after sixteen years in biathlon
The Slovak veteran reflected on motherhood, training demands and advice for younger athletes.
Source publication date:
Paulina Batovska-Fialkova ended her international biathlon career after sixteen years, 309 World Cup starts and appearances at four Olympic Winter Games. The thirty-three-year-old Slovak described wanting to enjoy her final races while accepting the emotions that accompanied her farewell to competition.
She explained that motherhood had changed her priorities, placing family before the demands of elite training. Although balancing those responsibilities reduced the attention she could give biathlon, she remained satisfied with the decision and looked forward to more time at home.
Her advice to younger competitors emphasised enjoyment and avoiding excessive pressure too early. She planned to help her husband finish their house, while leaving open the possibility of contributing to biathlon if needed.
