Sara Bejlek and Alexandra Eala advanced on their Dubai main-draw debuts during the tournament’s opening day. Bejlek defeated fellow wild card Zeynep Sonmez 6–2, 6–2, while Eala progressed when Hailey Baptiste retired with the Filipino leading 6–4, 0–1.
Bejlek extended her Middle East winning run to eight matches following her Abu Dhabi title. She converted six of ten break points and saved a 0–40 deficit early in the second set to maintain control.
Leylah Fernandez also advanced by defeating thirteenth seed Liudmila Samsonova 5–7, 7–5, 6–3. The Canadian’s recovery made Samsonova the first seed eliminated in play, after several notable withdrawals had already reshaped the field.
