Bertagnolli, Bugaev and Kampschreur win Paralympic slaloms
The final men’s alpine races completed milestone medal campaigns in Cortina.
Source publication date:
Giacomo Bertagnolli won the men’s vision impaired slalom with guide Andrea Ravelli, recovering from a first-run deficit to beat Michal Golas by 0.27 seconds. The Italian completed five medals from five races, with Kalle Ericsson taking bronze as fog complicated the final Paralympic alpine programme.
Aleksei Bugaev reclaimed the standing slalom title twelve years after his first victory, defeating Adam Hall by 2.83 seconds. Hall’s silver supplied New Zealand’s only medal of the Games, while Robin Cuche finished third after moving up from sixth at halfway.
Jeroen Kampschreur won the sitting event by 1.39 seconds over Jesper Pedersen, earning his third gold. Takeshi Suzuki took bronze and maintained a medal-winning record at every Games since Torino 2006.
