Biathlon medal reallocation ceremony confirmed for Antholz
Fourcade and Germany’s relay team were set to receive upgraded Olympic gold medals.
Source publication date:
The IBU confirmed an Olympic medal reallocation ceremony in Antholz on 15 February for athletes from Vancouver 2010 and Sochi 2014. Martin Fourcade was set to receive men’s mass start gold from 2010, while Germany’s 2014 men’s relay team would receive gold.
The ceremony programme also listed upgraded individual medals for Pavol Hurajt and Christoph Sumann, plus relay medals for Austria and Norway. IOC president Kirsty Coventry and representatives of the IOC and IBU were scheduled to present the awards between the Olympic pursuit races.
The reallocations followed the disqualification of Evgeny Ustyugov’s results from 2010 through 2014 for anti-doping violations linked to his biological passport. The announcement confirmed the ceremony and revised medal recipients, rather than introducing new competition results.
