Bihr’s late header secures Thailand’s Asian Cup place
Thailand beat Turkmenistan 2-1 to finish first in Group D.
Source publication date:
Thailand qualified for the 2027 Asian Cup after Manuel Bihr scored an eighty-ninth-minute winner against Turkmenistan in Bangkok. The 2-1 victory moved Thailand above opponents who would have qualified with a draw at Rajamangala Stadium.
Suphanan Bureerat headed in Theerathon Bunmathan’s corner to give Thailand the lead during a strong opening period. Turkmenistan responded around the hour mark when Teymur Charyyev struck from distance after a move involving Abdy Bashimov and Mihail Titov.
Thailand continued to seek the winner they required, creating opportunities without converting until another Theerathon corner reached Bihr. His close-range header decided the match and the qualifying group, ending Turkmenistan’s hopes while confirming Thailand’s place in Saudi Arabia.
