Shirine Boukli won the women’s under-48kg title at the Paris Grand Slam, defeating China’s Wenna Zhuang in golden score. The victory kept the first gold of the tournament in France and gave Boukli her second title at the Paris event.
Both finalists had apparent yuko scores overturned during the additional period before Boukli produced the decisive o-soto-gari. Zhuang had earlier defeated reigning world champion Assunta Scutto among the opponents on her route to the final, giving the Chinese athlete the silver medal.
Japan’s Wakana Koga won bronze against Laura Martinez Abelenda through a throw followed directly by a hold. Xinran Hui claimed the other bronze for China against Narantsetseg Ganbaatar, using groundwork to secure ippon and complete the category’s medal positions on the opening day.
