Braendli’s forty saves send Switzerland into the women’s semi-finals
Alina Muller’s goal decided the quarter-final against Finland.
Source publication date:
Switzerland defeated Finland 1–0 to reach the Olympic women’s hockey semi-finals. Andrea Braendli saved all forty shots she faced, while Alina Muller’s second-period goal supplied the difference in a game largely controlled territorially by the Finnish attack.
Switzerland generated only fourteen shots against Sanni Ahola, making Braendli’s performance central to the result. Finland created repeated opportunities through Elisa Holopainen and other forwards, but failed to convert its advantage into a goal during any of the three periods.
The win guaranteed Switzerland an opportunity to play for a medal and established a semi-final meeting with Canada. Swiss players credited their trust in one another and their goalkeeper, while Finland’s Julia Liikola identified poor finishing as a recurring problem across an ultimately disappointing tournament.
