Brignone wins second home Olympic gold in giant slalom
The Italian took gold as Hector and Stjernesund shared silver.
Source publication date:
Federica Brignone won the Olympic women’s giant slalom in Cortina d’Ampezzo to secure her second gold of the home Games. Sweden’s Sara Hector and Norway’s Thea Louise Stjernesund finished tied across the two runs and shared silver.
Brignone added the giant slalom title three days after winning super-G, continuing a comeback from a severe leg fracture. She had returned to racing only weeks before the Olympics and entered without the full preparation she had originally planned.
The two victories transformed an uncertain return into a double Olympic championship for the Italian skier. The giant slalom final also produced a shared medal outcome, with the equal combined times leaving both Hector and Stjernesund on the second step of the podium.
