British Judo hosted a workshop after its Finding Your Feet programme was selected for a Sport England case study. Partners from judo, health, exercise and universities examined how collaboration had supported delivery of a programme using judo techniques to teach safer falling.

Originally developed by researchers at Hertfordshire and Anglia Ruskin universities, the programme has expanded through partnerships overseen by development director Karen Roberts. Work with the University of Wolverhampton and funding from Parkinson’s UK also enabled a version for people living with Parkinson’s disease.

The workshop was facilitated by Ipsos Mori and sought evidence about partnership working rather than announcing clinical findings. Wolverhampton researcher Tina Smith said further courses and research were being explored, while British Judo welcomed the opportunity to demonstrate applications beyond conventional participation in the sport.
