The Spaniard beat Frech before partnering Jiang Xinyu to another trophy.
Source publication date:
Cristina Bucsa defeated Magdalena Frech 6–1, 4–6, 6–4 to win her first WTA singles title at the Mérida Open. The two-hour-fifteen-minute final completed a breakthrough week that included her first top-ten victory over Jasmine Paolini in the semifinals.
Frech forced a deciding set after Bucsa dominated the opener, then broke as the Spaniard served for the title at 5–3. Bucsa responded immediately, earning championship point on return before a double fault settled the contest in her favour.
Bucsa then partnered Jiang Xinyu to defeat Isabelle Haverlag and Maia Lumsden 6–4, 6–1 in the doubles final. The sixty-one-minute win delivered their first title together, Bucsa’s eighth tour doubles championship and Jiang’s seventh, completing the Spaniard’s singles-and-doubles sweep of the tournament.
