CAF president calls for review of disciplinary regulations
Motsepe announced an Executive Committee meeting and further support for match officials.
Source publication date:
CAF president Patrice Motsepe announced that he had called an Executive Committee meeting to review the confederation’s regulations, including its Disciplinary Code. His statement followed incidents at the Africa Cup of Nations final and the Disciplinary Board’s decision announced on 28 January.
Motsepe said he respected the decisions of CAF’s judicial bodies while seeking rules that allow appropriate sanctions for serious breaches. The proposed review concerned the powers available to those bodies and conduct affecting the integrity of CAF competitions.
He also committed to additional financial and technical resources for referees, VAR operators and match commissioners. The statement linked that support to improving officials’ skills and independence, alongside maintaining confidence in their fairness and impartiality across African football.
