Canada defeated Switzerland 4–0 in its first game of the Olympic women’s hockey tournament, two days after its scheduled opener had been postponed. The defending champions converted three power-play chances and controlled the game despite some initial nerves after the delayed start.

Canada outshot Switzerland 55–6, but Saskia Maurer’s goalkeeping prevented a much larger margin. At the other end, Emerance Maschmeyer recorded a shutout to improve her career Olympic record to three wins, with two of those appearances ending without a goal conceded.

Switzerland entered after a shootout victory over Czechia and could not generate the same attacking return against Canada. Both teams had a day off before further group A games, with the Swiss preparing for the United States and Canada due to meet Czechia.
