Canada defeat Czechia but lose captain Poulin to injury
Four opening-period goals established the Canadian advantage in group A.
Source publication date:
Canada defeated Czechia 5–1 to move to two wins in Olympic women’s hockey group A. Four goals during the first period established the advantage, but concern about captain Marie-Philip Poulin’s injury overshadowed the result after a physical game in Milan.
Poulin was checked into the boards by Kristyna Kaltounkova midway through the opening period. The Czech forward received an illegal-hit penalty, and Poulin briefly joined the ensuing power play before skating to the bench and leaving for the dressing room.
Canada’s players said they had continued competing for their absent captain, whose condition remained unconfirmed in the immediate report. Czechia acknowledged the difficulty of matching Canada’s physical play and recovering after the early goals, while the Canadians remained behind the unbeaten United States with a game in hand.
