Source publication date:
Canada defeated France 10–2 to complete the Olympic men’s preliminary round with three victories. Although both teams’ group A positions were already settled, Canada sought the strongest possible overall ranking to improve its position before the quarter-final reseeding process.
Macklin Celebrini scored twice and assisted once. Connor McDavid, Sidney Crosby and Mark Stone each contributed a goal and two assists, and fifteen Canadian players registered at least one point. Canada finished the group stage with twenty goals scored and three conceded.
France ended the preliminary round without a win and moved into the qualification playoffs. Its players described the difficult opening schedule as an opportunity to learn, while Canada’s attacking depth increased the goal difference that could determine its placing against the other group winners.
