Source publication date:
Canada defeated Switzerland 5–1 to move to two wins and six points at the top of Olympic men’s hockey group A. The result extended Canada’s winning sequence in Olympics featuring NHL players to twelve games, reaching back through the 2014 and 2010 tournaments.
Connor McDavid and Nathan MacKinnon each scored and provided two assists. Their attacking contribution helped Canada respond when Switzerland applied pressure, leaving the Canadians able to confirm first place with a victory against France in their final preliminary game.
The match ended with concern for Swiss forward Kevin Fiala, who was taken off on a stretcher after contact with Tom Wilson near the boards. Switzerland faced Czechia next in a game important to second place and the ranking ahead of the qualification round.
