Canada's 1950 world champion Jack Manson celebrates his 100th birthday
The IIHF marked the Edmonton goalkeeper's centenary with an account of his championship career and life after hockey.
Source publication date:
Jack Manson, one of Canada's goalkeepers at the 1950 World Championship, celebrated his hundredth birthday in Edmonton on 17 March. The IIHF's subsequent profile identified him as only the second known centenarian among players in its history.
Manson shared the net with Wilbur Delaney as Canada completed a perfect seven win tournament in London. He played four games, conceded five goals and guarded the net in the title clinching 3–1 victory over Sweden.
Before that international success, Manson helped the Edmonton Flyers win the 1948 Allan Cup. He retired from competitive hockey in 1952 to support his growing family, later continuing in recreational hockey until age 79 and preserving a detailed archive of Canada's world championship campaign.
