Source publication date:
Canada began its Olympic men’s hockey campaign with a 5–0 victory over Czechia. The Canadians converted a competitive opening into a clear result, with Connor McDavid registering three points and Sidney Crosby adding two assists in their first group A appearance.
Jordan Binnington made twenty-six saves to complete the shutout. Czech goalkeeper Lukas Dostal stopped thirty-one shots but could not prevent Canada’s attack from pulling away, after Macklin Celebrini opened the scoring late in the first period.
Czech players said they had created opportunities without the finishing needed to challenge the outcome. Canada’s forwards described the victory as a positive first step while stressing further improvement, with both teams still due to meet Switzerland and France during the remainder of the preliminary round.
