Cardiff City reaches a fifth straight women's Welsh Cup final
Cook and Bowen scored in a 2-1 semi-final victory over Wrexham.
Source publication date:
Cardiff City advanced to a fifth consecutive Bute Energy Welsh Cup final after defeating Wrexham 2-1 in Aberystwyth. The holders prevailed in the third meeting between the teams across successive weekends, reversing the outcomes of their recent Adran Trophy final and league encounters.
Mikayla Cook opened the scoring in the sixty-ninth minute with a curling delivery that she later said had been intended as a cross. Megan Bowen doubled Cardiff's advantage nine minutes later when she connected with Fiona Barry's free-kick into the penalty area.
Wrexham threatened a response through several late chances, but Faye Knox's stoppage-time strike arrived too late to change the outcome. Cardiff would meet Swansea City in the final at Rodney Parade, an occasion the report identified as manager Iain Darbyshire's last match in charge.
