Magnus Carlsen and Fabiano Caruana advanced to the final of the FIDE Freestyle Chess World Championship in Weissenhaus. Carlsen defeated Nodirbek Abdusattorov 3–1, while Caruana beat Vincent Keymer 2.5–1.5 in the other semifinal played on Saturday.

Reaching the final also qualified both grandmasters for the 2027 championship. Abdusattorov and Keymer were left to contest third place and the remaining direct qualification spot. The championship’s final and placement matches were scheduled for the following day in Germany.

In the lower bracket, Hans Niemann beat Levon Aronian 2.5–1.5 and Arjun Erigaisi overcame Javokhir Sindarov 3–1. Niemann and Erigaisi would play for fifth place. The accompanying women’s exhibition between Bibisara Assaubayeva and Alexandra Kosteniuk stood level at 1–1 after two games.
