The Charleston Open announced a 2.5-million-dollar financial package for its 2026 tournament, voluntarily doubling its investment in players. The package comprises 2.3 million dollars in on-site prize money and a further 200,000 dollars for WTA player benefit programmes, funded by Credit One Bank.
The announcement made Charleston the first standalone WTA 500 event to proactively match the prize-money requirement at ATP 500 level. It forms part of the WTA’s wider plan for equality across tournaments in this category by 2033.
The benefits contribution will support services including pensions, health insurance and subsidised education. Charleston’s tournament was scheduled for 28 March–5 April after receiving the players’ WTA 500 tournament-of-the-year award for a fourth consecutive season.
