Athletics Ireland visited Ciarraí Thiar Athletics Club during Seachtain na Gaeilge to examine how it incorporates Irish into training. Based in Daingean Uí Chúis within the Chorca Dhuibhne Gaeltacht, the club treats language use as part of its normal sporting environment.

Chairman Donald Grogan recalled a public meeting in 2024 attended by around forty people interested in creating an athletics club. Regional development officer Olivia Scully Hahne and Kerry Athletics representative Martin Fitzgerald helped explain the requirements for establishing it.

The club has produced sheets of useful Irish phrases for coaches, including athletics vocabulary for training sessions. Grogan said the aim was to help members use their existing Irish comfortably and learn additional terms; a video of the visit accompanied the federation’s report.
