Cocciaretto eliminates Gauff in Doha second round
The Italian lucky loser reached a WTA 1000 last sixteen for the first time.

Elisabetta Cocciaretto defeated Coco Gauff 6–4, 6–2 in Doha’s second round to reach the last sixteen of a WTA 1000 event for the first time. The lucky loser recorded her third top-ten victory and first such win outside a Grand Slam tournament.
Cocciaretto’s early ball striking repeatedly pressured Gauff, and a long baseline rally helped her regain a first-set break after the American levelled at 3–3. She saved break points in her final two service games before taking the opener.
An immediate break established control in the second set as Gauff’s error count rose. Cocciaretto advanced to face Ann Li, continuing a strong season that had already brought a qualifying-to-title run in Hobart.
