Coiro leads 800m heats as Italian sprinters advance in Torun
A personal best opens the World Indoor Championships for the Italian middle-distance runner.

Eloisa Coiro ran 1:59.87 to win her 800m heat at the World Indoor Championships in Torun. Despite illness and a late arrival, she improved her personal best by eleven hundredths and recorded the fastest time across the opening round.
Italian men’s sprinters Samuele Ceccarelli and Filippo Randazzo also advanced. Ceccarelli ran 6.62 and Randazzo 6.63, each securing third place in his heat and an automatic qualification position by three thousandths of a second.
Alessandra Bonora improved her 400m personal best to 52.20, fifth on Italy’s all-time list, but missed progression by seven hundredths. Laura Pellicoro was eliminated after running 2:01.99 in the 800m. Heptathlete Dario Dester withdrew following three events with an adductor injury.
