Czechia recover against France for their first Olympic group win
The Czechs prevailed in a nine-goal game after both teams had lost their openers.
Source publication date:
Czechia defeated France 6–3 to record its first victory in Olympic men’s hockey group A. Both countries entered the match after being shut out in their opening games, and France’s attacking response made the contest closer than the final shot totals suggested.
Czechia finished with a 38–12 advantage in shots, but France converted several opportunities to keep the game competitive. Martin Necas opened the scoring on a power play following a cross-ice pass from David Pastrnak, before the Czech lead was tested.
The victory brought Czechia to one win from two preliminary appearances. Czech players said they needed to sustain their performance across the full sixty minutes, while France regarded the contest as useful experience despite losing another opportunity to secure points in its Olympic return.
