Source publication date:
Johannes Dale-Skjevdal won Olympic men’s 15-kilometre biathlon mass start gold in 39:17.1. The Norwegian was the only athlete to hit all twenty targets in the thirty-man field and took control through the two standing shooting stages.
Sturla Holm Lægreid finished second, 10.5 seconds behind, and Quentin Fillon Maillet took bronze, 25.6 back. Fillon Maillet overcame four penalties and passed Germany’s Philipp Horn on the final loop, leaving Horn fourth despite only one missed target.
Dale-Skjevdal had started the season on the IBU Cup circuit and was not selected for either Olympic relay team. His individual victory came in his third Olympic start, while Lægreid became the first man to medal in every individual biathlon discipline at one Games.
