Daly and Langton lead record-setting Irish age-group indoors

Athlone’s under-twenty and under-twenty-three championships produced world qualifying performances.

Molly Daly ran a championship record of 53.74 to win the under-twenty women’s four hundred metres at Ireland’s age-group indoors in Athlone. In only her third race over the distance, she met the World Under-20 standard and moved second on Ireland’s indoor age-group list.

Erin Friel also achieved the global qualifying mark with 54.20 in second place. Pia Langton won the under-twenty fifteen hundred metres in a championship record of 4:21.77, while runner-up Freya Renton’s 4:22.08 met the European Under-18 standard.

Charlie O’Neill set another fifteen-hundred-metre championship record at 3:52.11. Meabh Corkery cleared an under-twenty pole-vault best of 3.61 metres, and Una Brice added the under-twenty-three championship mark with 3.36.
