De Jong faces five-to-six-week recovery after training injury
Barcelona confirmed a hamstring injury to the Netherlands midfielder.
Source publication date:
Barcelona announced that Frenkie de Jong had injured the outer part of his lower right hamstring during training. Tests indicated a recovery period of five to six weeks, removing a regular midfielder from Hansi Flick’s available squad for the coming matches.
De Jong had played thirty-one times during the season when the injury occurred. He had also just scored his first goal of the campaign in Barcelona’s league victory over Levante, underlining the interruption to a period in which he remained heavily involved.
The Netherlands international had accumulated 290 Barcelona appearances. That total placed him two games short of matching Phillip Cocu’s club record for a Dutch player, a milestone his recovery would now postpone rather than bring immediately closer.
