De Silvestro wins first Paralympic gold in giant slalom
Aigner and Bauchet secured further titles across the men’s Cortina programme.
Source publication date:
Renè De Silvestro won his first Paralympic title in the men’s sitting giant slalom, defeating Niels de Langen by 0.57 seconds. The Italian protected a first-run lead of more than eight-tenths despite the Dutchman’s faster second descent, with Jesper Pedersen completing the podium in Cortina.
Johannes Aigner and guide Nico Haberl won the vision impaired event after trailing Giacomo Bertagnolli at halfway. A strong second run and late mistakes from the Italian produced a 0.34-second winning margin, while Michal Golas took bronze ahead of Kalle Ericsson at the finish.
Arthur Bauchet won the standing race by 1.96 seconds over Robin Cuche, earning his second gold of the Games. Bauchet’s victory raised his career Paralympic gold total to five before the remaining slalom.
