Debutant Williams scores as India defeat Hong Kong

India beat Hong Kong, China 2-1 in Kochi to record their first victory in the final round of Asian Cup qualifying. The result lifted India to five points, while Hong Kong finished second in Group C behind qualified Singapore.
Ryan Williams scored on his international debut after collecting Manvir Singh’s early pass. India maintained pressure and protected the lead until the interval, with goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh also handling an attempt from Wong Wai.
Akash Mishra added a second soon after the restart with a powerful finish from a narrow angle. Everton Camargo replied for Hong Kong, but India resisted the later search for an equaliser as Gurpreet made further saves, preserving a successful finish despite missing out on the finals.
