Denmark defeated Latvia 4–2 to record its first victory of the Olympic men’s tournament in Milan. The outcome left Denmark, Germany and Latvia with one win apiece in group C while the United States remained ahead in the race for direct quarter-final qualification.

Nick Olesen scored twice and added an assist for Denmark. Goalkeeper Frederik Andersen made thirty-one saves, helping the team protect its advantage after Latvia recovered from a three-goal deficit. Eduards Tralmaks contributed two points for the losing side.

Danish players welcomed the confidence gained from converting their third preliminary appearance into a win. Latvia captain Kaspars Daugavins said his team had continued fighting after falling behind, but the attempted comeback was insufficient to change the result of a demanding back-to-back tournament schedule.
