Deromedis and Tomasoni deliver Italian Olympic ski cross one-two
The home pair won gold and silver ahead of Alex Fiva.
Source publication date:
Simone Deromedis and Federico Tomasoni won Olympic men’s ski cross gold and silver in Livigno, giving Italy two medals in the final. Switzerland’s Alex Fiva took bronze, while Japan’s Satoshi Furuno finished fourth.
The two Italians made strong starts, and Deromedis immediately established a lead he retained throughout the race. Fiva held second for much of the final, but Tomasoni caught him at the finish and won the photo-finish decision for silver.
Deromedis improved on fifth place at Beijing 2022, while Fiva added bronze to his previous Olympic silver. The Italian one-two followed Flora Tabanelli’s big air bronze earlier in the week, completing the host country’s set of freestyle skiing medal colours at Milano Cortina.
