Source publication date:
Andy Diaz defended his World Indoor Championships triple jump title with a first-round leap of 17.47m in Torun. The season-leading mark secured Italy’s first medal of the meeting, almost a year after his victory in Nanjing.
Jamaica’s Jordan Scott improved through his opening three jumps and finished with silver at 17.33m. Algeria’s Yasser Triki took bronze with 17.30m, while Italy’s outdoor world silver medallist Andrea Dallavalle placed seventh at 16.90m.
Diaz followed his winning effort with 16.91m and 17.08m, passing twice and fouling his final attempt. The thirty-year-old became the second Italian to win two world indoor titles, following Gennaro Di Napoli’s consecutive 3,000m victories in 1993 and 1995.
