The Olympic committee selected two skating champions to lead its delegation.

The Canadian Olympic Committee named Steven Dubois and Valérie Maltais as Canada’s closing ceremony flag bearers for Milano Cortina. Dubois earned short track gold in the men’s five hundred metres and mixed relay silver, while Maltais won long track team pursuit gold and two individual bronzes.
The announcement recognised different Olympic journeys. Dubois was at his second Games after overcoming a hip injury during the season. Maltais was competing at her fifth Olympics and had become a medallist in both long track and short track speed skating.
Chef de mission Jennifer Heil said the choice reflected how the pair supported teammates and represented Canada as well as their performances. Both athletes had accumulated five career Olympic medals by the time of selection.
