Eala and Ostapenko advance in Abu Dhabi opener
Eala defeated Sonmez while Ostapenko saved two match points during the first-round programme.

Alexandra Eala defeated Zeynep Sonmez 6–4, 6–3 in Abu Dhabi’s first round, extending her record against the Turkish player to three victories. The close friends produced ten service breaks across nineteen games, with Eala’s fast starts in each set proving decisive.
Eala advanced to face Aliaksandra Sasnovich, who defeated Paula Badosa in three sets. Jelena Ostapenko also progressed after saving two match points against Oksana Selekhmeteva before winning 5–7, 7–6, 6–2 in two hours and forty-three minutes.
Ostapenko’s recovery set up a meeting with Sara Bejlek. The Czech qualifier defeated previous runner-up Ashlyn Krueger 6–3, 6–0, using accurate drop shots to complete a sixty-seven-minute victory and join the second-round field.
