Eala defeats Paolini for third top-ten victory
The Filipino advanced to Dubai’s last sixteen after surviving a tense second-set finish.
Source publication date:
Alexandra Eala defeated Jasmine Paolini 6–1, 7–6 in Dubai’s second round to record her third tour-level top-ten victory. The twenty-year-old converted her fifth match point after one hour and forty minutes, beating the former tournament champion and reaching the last sixteen.
Eala did not face a break point in the opening set. Paolini offered stronger resistance in the second, saving three match points on serve, breaking as Eala served for victory and later holding two set points of her own.
Eala survived that pressure and won the tiebreak 7–5 with a forehand winner. She became the first Filipino to reach Dubai’s last sixteen and advanced to face Sorana Cirstea in the next round.
