Alexandra Eala defeated Laura Siegemund in a three-hour-twenty-minute Miami Open match to reach the third round. The world number twenty-nine recovered from losing an opening-set tiebreak and won each of the final two sets 6–3 in her longest WTA contest.
Eala established an early 3–0 lead, but the experienced German used varied shots to disrupt her rhythm and bring the first set back level. Siegemund survived multiple set points before taking the tiebreak, requiring the younger player to reset for the remaining sets.
Eala broke early in both the second and third sets and completed the comeback after a physically demanding afternoon. She said improving fitness had been a priority since her previous Miami semifinal run, and advanced to face Magda Linette in the next round.
